Blue Green Algae Update – 10/4/18
It was confirmed that blue green algae is present in the lake with the water samples that were taken on September 11, 2018. The lake was subsequently closed. New water samples were taken October 1, 2018.
The results have come back at 318 ng/mL for Microsystins/Nodularins, the previous test came back at 3,300 ng/mL. This exceeds the current EPA recreational threshold (4.0 ng/mL). The results also indicate Saxitoxin was detected in the open water sample at .05 ng/mL. This is notifications that the risk is still considered to be high, and the flag at the Rec Center will change color accordingly.
The red colored flag will be displayed indicating that the risk is High because of the blue green algae.
If you see areas that look like blue green algae, please avoid the area. The algae mats can change location depending on the way the wind is blowing, so it is advised to always be aware this can happen.
